Cybersecurity Awareness Month: #BeSafeInCyberspace

On October 30, 2023, the 2nd consecutive cybersecurity event was organized by Assistant Professors Dr. Amal Mersni and Dr. Özge Büyükdağlı, from the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Software Engineering (SE), and Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering (AIDE) study programs within the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS) at IUS. This event was held in collaboration with Ms. Erna Berbić, a dedicated 2nd cycle student in CSE, and with the participation MIBO Komunikacije Sarajevo, and Cisco Systems Internetworking d.o.o. Sarajevo, marking the Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The event was an incredible success, leaving attendees with a wealth of knowledge and inspiration. The event featured several distinguished guest speakers, making it a truly enlightening experience for all who attended.

Mr. Rešad Rovčanin, a Cisco Systems engineer from Sarajevo, opened the event with his insightful talk on the evolving landscape of cybersecurity. Following Mr. Rovčanin, Mr. Haris Brkanić, Head of the Technical Department at MIBO Komunikacije in Sarajevo, shared his expertise, shedding light on innovative approaches to tackle cybersecurity challenges. The final keynote speaker, Mr. Quentin Heyler from CERT Hermès in France, emphasized the critical role of proactive cybersecurity measures. He underscored the significance of ethical hacking as a means to protect systems. To illustrate his points, he showcased a demonstration of cybersecurity penetration testing. His international perspective added a global dimension to the event.

In addition to these keynote sessions, the event featured two-panel discussions in which IUS CSE and SE graduates shared their journeys, from gaining knowledge in the Cybersecurity course to applying it in their careers, demonstrating the tangible benefits of investing in cybersecurity education.

With valuable insights from renowned experts and inspiring stories from graduates, the event left participants well-equipped to tackle the challenges of the digital age and make a meaningful impact in cybersecurity.
